Working Mum – Being a Parent

Last week I made a giant leap forward in my journey as a parent. Well, that’s what it felt like anyway and I must admit I was quite proud of myself and my family by the end of the day. Any parent who has this achievement under their belt will know the trepidation with which you approach the Big Day; the organising, packing for all eventualities and then the long drive there – and it is always a long drive there. With a three and a half year old and 22 month old going gaga over Peppa Pig (which child isn’t?!), Peppa Pig World on the edge of the New Forest near Southampton  seemed the only choice. Impatient to see her reaction my husband and I decided to tell her the day before the visit. Here was our first mistake. I tried so hard to keep my mouth shut and not say a word but I just couldn’t hold it in. Who was the kid here – me or her?! Forget food or sleep after that. Every couple of hours she would ask when we were going and I did worry I’d be sick of the whole thing before we even got there. My youngest, a die-hard George Pig fan, kept repeating his name with big, wide eyes. I’m not sure how much a 22 month old can understand...
