Sleep, or rather the lack of it, is probably the most exhausting part of new parenthood. While a solid bedtime routine can help babies to develop good sleep habits, sometimes it’s difficult to know where to start.
Recently, baby product brand Johnson’s Baby launched a new app that promises to help parents who are having trouble settling their baby at night. The JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME™ Baby Sleep App is designed to help establish a bedtime routine and improve baby’s sleep as they grow.
The FREE app can be downloaded from both iTunes & Google Play. When it first hit the app stores, a few technical difficulties made it a little too glitchy to use. Now most of the major bug seem to have been wiped out, we’ve taken a look to see what it has to offer.
The JOHNSON’S® BEDTIME™ Baby Sleep App has a number of features including:
– JOHNSON’S® 3-step bedtime routine
Experienced parents will be familiar with 3-step routine encouraged by the JOHNSON’S® brand. The routine consists of bath, massage and quite time before bed. This nighttime routine is clinically proven to help babies and toddlers aged 7 to 36 months sleep better. Most of this is common sense, but the app provides information and interactive how-to videos that you might find helpful.
– Baby’s Sleep Score
You can use the app to answer questions about your baby’s sleep habits and get an analysis score. Your score comes with recommendations on steps you could take to help your baby sleep better. The bonus of this feature is that you can take the test again as your little one grows, hopefully giving you boost as you see your baby’s sleep improve.
– Access Sleep Experts
One interesting feature of this app is that it gives you access to JOHNSON’S® panel of sleep analysts, including their chief Baby Sleep Expert, Dr. Jodi Mindell. You can get answers your sleep-related questions, and there’s also a forum you can visit, too.
– Track Your Baby’s Sleep
Most parents keep a mental log of their child’s sleep and waking times. This app allows you to keep an actual log your little one’s daily sleep habits, including how long they sleep and when they wake. This is good if you want to better understand your baby’s sleep patterns, and it’s also a convenient way of sharing their sleep routine with another caregiver, like a grandparent.
– Lullabies and Ambient Sounds
Gentle sounds are often useful in helping little one’s drift off to sleep. The JOHNSON’S® baby sleep app comes with lullabies (sung by a female singer) and ambient sounds (white noise). This sort of soft background noise comes in handy if you want to prevent your baby getting used to sleeping in a completely silent environment. As for the lullaby singer, some parents aren’t keen, but others say she’s proving to be a big hit with their babies!
