Sew Your Own Stocking

My eight-year-old had a go at doing this one alone and she’s really pleased with the results.

The Make Your Own Felt Stocking Kit from the Hobbycraft Christmas range comes with everything you need to make two cheerful stockings. The step by step instructions are simple to follow, although you will need to know how to do a blanket stitch to sew it together. No cutting out required – you just need to have some glue and a needle.

Alternative Christmas Pom-Pom Wreath

This is a great alternative to a traditional wreath – and lots of fun to make. Children will love helping to make the pom-poms. It takes a while to make enough of them to cover the whole wreath, but they’re so easy you can do them whilst watching the TV.

What you need

Polystyrene wreath 350 millimetres
Clover pom-pom makers
Wool in a variety of colours
Scissors
PVA glue or a glue gun

How to make

1. Start to make your pom-poms using the Clover Pompom maker. You can find a tutorial here.

2. When you have a good number of pom-poms, use the glue to stick them to the wreath. And you’re done!

Tip: Use two different colour wools together to create duo-colour pom-poms.

Be Merry Paper Chain

To brighten up our living room walls, my youngest daughter set about making this paper chain set. With 90 links, it kept her busy for a good hour and she had fun seeing how far it would stretch. The links are held together with double sided sticky tape, which was no problem for us but very young children would need a little help with this.

Bumper Craft Tub

This set is great for little crafters as they can let their imaginations run wild – just the thing to keep them busy in the lead up to Christmas.

The bumper craft tub is packed full of basic Christmas craft items ranging from glitter glue pens, sequins and pipe cleaners to colour-in pop-up Christmas cards and polystyrene balls for designing your own baubles. We especially love the scrape-away decorations (pictured below).

Knit Your Own Christmas Jumper

Nothing quite says Christmas like brightly coloured knitwear. While the idea of knitting your own jumper may sound daunting to beginners, this kit is designed to make the process as simple as possible (plus there’s always YouTube if you get stuck!). The kit contains everything you need to make one jumper in size small (size 10-12) up to large (size 18-20).
