When you think about beach huts, you usually expect there to be a beach nearby. Now Maldon District Council have opened their first set of beach huts miles away from the nearest sand castle.

The local authority spent £42,000 on eight huts to provide bases for families visiting the town’s Promenade Park.

They hope that the new huts will encourage more people to visit Maldon for day trips and give local economy a boost.

“Unfortunately we don’t have a beach because we don’t have the sand,” said council deputy leader Mark Durham, adding that the huts were the “first step into increased investment” into Promenade Park.

The huts are located in the centre of the Promenade, overlooking a variety of children’s play equipment, the Splash Park and Galleon, and can be rented out by the day.
