Thinking about a family camping trip this year? Forget sweaty tents and nylon sleeping bags; we’re talking wood burners, double beds and fully equipped kitchens.
Here’s our pick of the best family glamping holidays in Essex and the surrounding area.
Feather Down Layer Marney, nr Colchester
Set in the grounds of the historical Layer Marney Tower, this glamping experience is a winner for little animal lovers. You’ll find friendly horses, sheep and chickens living in this beautiful spot, as well as wildlife like deer, owls, and pheasants.
All of the accommodation sleeps up to 6 people and includes running water, flushing toilet, two deckchairs, private shower, linen, towels and an outdoor cooker. Some come with an outdoor hot tub, too. Also on-site are free eggs, which you can collect straight from the chicken coop, and a small children’s play area.
Got a baby? No problem! You can hire a cot, highchair, and playpen and save on that valuable packing space.
Prices begin at £289 for a two night stay, rising to £1189 for 7 nights in August.
Ready Camping, Kelvedon Hatch
This glamping site is located in the pretty village of Kelvedon Hatch, home to the famous cold war bunker. It’s also just a short drive from Old MacDondald’s Farm and Fun Park. What’s more, the Ready Camping sites have been created by the Camping and Caravanning Club, who definitely know a thing or two about camping holidays!
Each canvas tent has 2 bedrooms, sleeping up to 4 adults and 2 children, with proper beds, a sofa and a dining area. The contemporary tents all have an electricity supply and fully functioning kitchens. The only thing you need to bring is your own bedding, towels and a travel cot, if needed. The shaded veranda is a lovely spot to sit and relax once the little ones are settled in bed.
The Kelvedon Hatch glamping site is a good site with hot showers, clean toilets, a parent and child room, children’s play area and plenty of handy facilities.
