A nit-busting company based in Essex says it can whip away children’s head lice using a specially adapted vacuum cleaner.

The treatment, provided by a company called The Hairforce, involves dividing the hair into sections and then using a modified nit hoover to vacuum each section, sucking up any wandering head lice.

The company’s so-called ‘lice assassins’ say that the treatment is 100% guaranteed. The service is free of any chemicals and its success hinges on something that you can’t buy in the shops – time and plenty of elbow grease.

Beating bugs with a nit hoover

The process takes place over 2 appointments, 7 days apart. The initial session takes an hour and a half and the second lasts an hour.

The service is carried out in 3 stages:

  1. The Lice Assassins go over the hair with a specially designed hoover, removing 95% of the live lice (sadly your Dyson won’t do the same job).
  2. The treatment then involves using heated air technology to dry out the remaining nits (eggs) so that they can’t hatch.
  3. Lastly, there’s the pain-staking process of removing any stubborn lice with the nit comb.

What does it cost?

The whole treatment is £150; £100 is payable at the first appointment and the remainder is due after the second visit.

Where can I find a Hairforce salon?

A branch of Hairforce can be found in Epping, Essex. There are also several other branches around the country, including four around London.

Is it worth it?

If you want to know whether the nit hoover actually works, then the good news is that Hairforce have a lot of satisfied customers. If you’d prefer know whether it’s worth the money… well, that will probably depend on the size of your wallet and how much you hate dealing with a lice infestation.

For nitaphobes who’d rather sell a kidney than handle those nasty creepy crawlies, this could be a great service.

Of course, just because you manage to get rid of the nits once, doesn’t mean they won’t come back again… and again… and again. Over time, it could end up costing you as much as a family holiday. However, for those willing stump up the cash for an easier – less disgusting – life, the Lice Assassins at Hairforce could be the stuff that parenting dreams are made of.
