One thing’s for sure – if you’re going off-road with a baby or toddler you’ll need to pack away the pushchair and reach for something a bit versatile.
In preparation for the outdoor pursuit season, we’ve been checking out the Osprey Poco AG Premium Carrier, which is renowned for being one of the best backpack carriers on the market.
Osprey Poco AG Premium Carrier Review
The Osprey Poco Premium Carrier is cleverly designed, packed with handy features, but still light and adjustable enough for both mums and dads to use comfortably.
The carrier is suitable for babies from 16lb who can sit unaided. It can carry up to 48lb (nearly 22kg) in weight, which includes the weight of any gear that you are carrying as well as baby.
One of the most notable features is the ability to change the fit of the carrier without having to take it off or ask someone else for help. The shoulder and waste straps are easily altered and the child’s harness, seat and foot stirrups make it simple to get the right fit for everyone with minimal fuss. Just a couple of small adjustments, you’re ready to go.
Some of the other features we really like are the built-in SPF 50 sunshade, detachable raincover, detachable 11L daypack, washable dribble pad, pocket mirrors to check on baby, and the many zippered pockets, particularly those on the hip belt.
The only thing we found slightly tricky was putting the sunshade away when the pack was full of other items, but it all zipped away in the end without too much struggle. It also would’ve been nice to have slightly larger water bottle pockets.
Essex Baby Verdict
Surprisingly light, comfortable and without the same sweaty build-up that we’ve had before with other carriers (yuck!), we love the excellent features of this pack.
If you’re just going for a short stroll, a cheaper standard baby carrier or sling will meet your needs. However for longer distance walks and dedicated hikers, the Osprey Poco AG Premium Carrier comes with all those important extras that can keep the whole family happier for longer.
Whether you’re doing some serious trekking or just spending a few hours walking through the fields and forests, it’s well-worth investing in a carrier that’s made specifically for the task. Buy it when your little one is just a few months old, and you’ll get years of use out of it.
