New research has said that children should be exposed to dirt and germs in order for them to avoid allergies and illnesses.
According to a Time report on a study published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, babies exposed to germs and dirt such as animal droppings and dirt were less likely to be wheezing by age three.
This may not come as a surprise to those who are familiar with the ‘hygiene hypothesis’, which theorises that in order for the immune system to be built up, it must come into contact with germs in order for it to fight them.
Whilst you, as a parent, may dread the thought of piles of dirty washing, it may just save your children a lifetime of respiratory problems and illnesses… who knew!
