Essex Baby Review
Stompa Classic Bunk Bed can be easily adapted to both girls’ and boys’ bedroom and are ideal for sharers. Our Essex Baby reviewer tests them out with her two daughters, aged 3 and 7.
The Stompa Classic Bunk Bed converts into two comfortable single beds – perfect for growing kids. It can easily be adapted to suit a boy’s or girl’s bedroom. Made from solid pine, it has attractive tongue and groove detail in the headboards and is crafted with traditional techniques. This space saving bed can be completed by adding two under-bed storage drawers or, alternatively, a trundle bed for when a friend sleeps over.
From the very beginning my experience with these beds was wonderful. The delivery people were prompt and polite and rang to let me know when they were on their way.
I found the instructions pretty easy to follow and managed to construct the separate beds on my own, although it took me a few hours (I will point out that it states on the instructions that it should take two people around 60 minutes to build the bunks). The only part I found difficult was screwing in the slats in as it was quite tough to do without guide holes, but I haven’t heard of this being an issue for anyone else, so might just be me.
The white solid pine wood has a lovely fresh, clean look which fitted beautifully with the rest of the furniture in my daughters’ bedroom. My children absolutely adore them and my eldest has spent several evenings just lying on the top bunk and reading as she says it’s so comfortable up there. They certainly seem to be much stronger than the metal framed bunks that some of my friend’s children sleep in.
To go with the new beds, I also had two Stompa Superior Sprung mattresses, which seem to be very comfortable and quite firm. Both my girls have slept like logs on them so far. Note: The mattress size required for the main bedframe is 90 x 190cm and there is a 16cm depth limit on the top bunk.
As optional extras, you can also add either two under-bed storage drawers or a trundle guest bed. We will definitely be purchasing one of these extras in the future – just as soon as we manage to choose between them!
Essex Baby Rating
Although these bunks may not be the cheapest on the market, I feel that in this case it is worth paying that little bit more as the beds are very sturdy and I get the feeling they will last many years. I also really like that we will be able to separate the beds into two singles, which I’m sure we’ll want to do in a few years’ time. Essex Baby gives the Stompa Classic Bunk Bed 4.75 out of 5, dropping only a few marks due to the difficulties I had screwing in the slats.
