According to a survey commissioned by Essex Country Parks, 86 per cent of parents with children under 18 believe that more time should be spent playing outdoors.
Seventy-five per cent of parents also feel that their children spend too much time playing computer games; 69 per cent think they need more exercise; 65 per cent think they watch too much TV, and 53 per cent are concerned that they spend too much time using social media.
Essex County Council released the survey to coincide with the beginning of the Easter holidays and the start of Essex Country Parks’ diary of family-friendly outdoor events.
County Councillor John Jowers, a cabinet member for Libraries, Communities and Planning, said: “If parents agree that their children should be playing outdoors more, then it proves how essential it is for our Essex Country Parks to offer so many fun Easter events for all the family.”
