An Australian mum has designed a ‘daddy doll’ that is intended to help children cope with a parent’s absence.

Lauren Smith, whose husband frequently works away from home, came up with the idea for the Wish You Were Here Dolls as a way of comforting their two young daughters.

She created a soft doll, printed with a photograph of her husband, which the girls could cuddle and communicate with.

Lauren explains: “My girls were missing daddy a lot, so I got them a doll of daddy to cuddle, talk to, take to bed and comfort them when they were missing him while he was away.

“My girls just love their dolls! Daddy is in his uniform so they know that when he is away he is at work, and when he comes home he is with them.”

Lauren now runs a small businesses that aids other families who are coping with absent loved ones.

What do you think of Lauren’s idea? Would your child love a doll that looks like a family member? Please share your thoughts in the box below.
