Essex Baby are delighted to reveal that hard working mum Sarah Roe has been named as the site’s first ever Mother of the Year!
Sarah was nominated for the award by her 14-year-old daughter, Holly, who said that, despite running three businesses and raising three children, her mum “always has time for others.”
Sarah, from Maldon, was overwhelmed when she heard that she had been awarded the title of Mother of the Year. She said: “I cannot tell you how excited I was to see this [news] and how surprised to hear that holly took time to nominate me.”
Community-minded Sarah is a “hands-on” employers who juggles business with family life. On top of this, she regularly arranges events for local families to attend free of charge, often opening up her own home for the occasions.
Despite leaving school at a young age, Sarah has worked hard to turn her life into a success story.
She told us: “I left school at 13 no qualifications or self-esteem. I was home schooled and went into business with my mum selling rear breed animals. At 18 I met my husband and had 3 children. I looked after them for 10 years whilst getting my childcare and horse qualifications.
“When my youngest was three, I opened Small Steps Day Care on my own, which received ‘good’ on my first Ofsted inspection, then ‘outstanding’ on my second. After 4 years I opened a full livery yard and a year ago took over a tanker company.
“I have just started putting together a magazine advertising businesses to raise money for cancer research. The family take part in sponsored rides to raise money and I try and put on events for local families sponsored by us each year, so people can get together and have fun.”
The busy mum is married to Brian Roe and is also mum to Robert, 15, and William, aged 11.
