We are very excited to announce that Essex Baby walked away with a Gold medal at last night’s Essex Digital Awards (EDA16) ceremony. Woohoo!
Our website, which was founded by Essex mum and entrepreneur, Tamsin Malone, won the Lifestyle and Culture category, beating some very stiff competition. The team also received the Silver award in the Use of Social Media for Business category.
Following the event last night at Weston Homes Community Stadium, Colchester, Tamsin said: “We are thrilled to win these awards; Essex Baby has become an important source of advice and support for parents with babies and young children in our region. For first time parents in particular, having a child is a joyous time, but it can also be difficult and lonely.
“Essex Baby has grown very rapidly, becoming an important source of advice and comfort for Essex parents, so it is lovely that our role in the community has been rewarded. Our growth has certainly been fuelled by the high birth rates in Essex.”
The Essex Digital Awards ceremony
The Essex Digital Awards was set up in 2013 to recognise the online achievements of businesses, charities and schools from across the county. The panel of 23 judges, including Mike Herbrik from Warner Music, Tim Brown from Sky Sports and David Wilde from Essex County Council, applauded Essex Baby’s user-orientated approach and its functional events, advice and guidance for parents.
Essex Baby was set up in February 2013 by Tamsin Malone, an Essex-based mum, who wanted to provide a local online information resource for local mums, dads, parents, grandparents and carers across Essex.
“I set up the website because I was relatively new to Essex when she first became a mum, at the time, I spent hours searching various sites across the internet for parenting information, activities in Essex with other new mums and places to go hat had baby facilities. Because this took a lot of time – a valuable commodity which mums do not have – I wanted to share my research, which is how Essex Baby came about.”
Essex Baby: Made for mums, by mums
The company describes itself as the essential online resource for parenting advice and support. Information listed includes details of local classes, fun days out, baby and toddler groups, news stories and product reviews. Founded in 2013, the site provides a network for businesses and members of the community to share information and experiences.
When the website was first launched, Tamsin’s friends started logging on, and by day three, 15 people had visited the site.
“Fast forward three years and the site regularly gets 15,000 visitors a month who read the product reviews and blog articles, take part in the competitions, take advantage of the special offers, and plan their days out by using the ‘what’s on’ calendar,” she adds. “We also have 19,000 e-news subscribers which demonstrates the value our community members gain from our activities.”
The Digital Awards Champions
Essex Baby will now complete against gold winners from six counties in The Digital Awards Champions, which will launch in November.
Essex Baby is the first of thirty regional sites Tamsin and her team intend to roll out across the UK.
“We are really interested in hearing from potential partners and anyone who wants to help roll out this successful idea,” Tamsin adds. “I’m very happy to talk to investors or sponsors who want to grow with my business – get in touch, I’m open to all ideas.”
