This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On will take place at 5pm in Broadwalk. To celebrate, there is a whole programme of exciting activities planned in the Town Centre throughout the day. Harvey Centre (11am4pm)– Join the Harvey Centre for a comedy Christmas with their fun packed launch event, featuring a host of special guests and live entertainment.And, do not forget to visit Santa in his Grotto! Market Square (11am4pm) – Pop down to Market Square where Harlow’s very first Makers Market will be taking place. A variety of stalls will be offering unique, hand crafted products not found on the high street. And join the FREE workshop to make your own Elf hat costume. Workshops from 12pm to 1:30pm and 2pm to 3:30pm. Festive Procession (4pm) – With your Elf costume, why not join the cast of this year’s panto – Aladdin, Santa and his special friends, the Pets’ Corner Reindeer who will be leading a festive procession. Meet Santa and his friends in the Harvey Centre, be led out into Broad Walk and down towards the Christmas tree, where the countdown will begin and the Broad Walk Christmas Lights switched on at 5pm. The Water Gardens (4pm6pm) – Join Santa and his magical friends in The Water Gardens who will be putting on a festive spectacular with live music and mulled wine.

Hornchurch Christmas Light Switch On – Hornchurch High Street, Town Centre

The Hornchurch Christmas Cracker Event returns to Hornchurch this Christmas season. Organised by the Hornchurch Town Team of local small businesses, Messy Church in Hornchurch along with the Parish of Hornchurch will be joining in and supporting the events taking place in Hornchurch town centre by holding an activity/craft session along with refreshments in North Street Hall from 2:30-4:30pm

Southend High Street Christmas Lights Switch On

The main stage will be situated in Victoria Circus with a warm up of activities taking place from 1-4.15pm. Dom will be joined by Martin and Su from 4.25pm, with the switch on taking place at 6pm! This will include appearances from Voice Kids, including Kobi and Charlie Dillon, Matt Linen and Ryan the Lion. At the other end of the High Street, the Royals Shopping Centre plays host to a wealth of events in the centre itself from 11am-4pm. There will also be street pianos in the alcove at Debenhams, Little Royalty Christmas Club event for the kids to enjoy free face painting, arts and crafts, singing and Christmas themed games. There will also be a polar bear, performance area and footmen at each entrances giving away candy canes and crowns! There will also be trampolines in the High Street. Plus – be sure not to miss the firework display finale. Continue the festive spirit and head down to City Beach after the switch on, in time for Southend BID’s free Seafront Fireworks.

Braintree Christmas Lights Switch On Event

The celebrations kick-start on Saturday 17th November, where Radio Essex will be hosting the annual switch-on event, including live entertainment from local artists, dance groups, a school choir as well as fun activities for the kids.The entertainment will begin in Market Place at 12pm until 5.45pm, with the switch on at 5.30pm by Radio Essex presenters Chris and Abbie. George Yard Shopping Centre switch on will be just before at 5pm, along with a Santa’s Grotto throughout the day. A parade will take place between both light switch on events across the town.

Chelmsford Lights Switch On – City Centre

The festivities begin in Chelmsford High Street at 12pm with a selection of walkabout fun, family friendly activities and festive food and drink. Heart FM presenters Martin and Su will kick off the entertainment on the main stage at 2:30pm. The evening will culminate with the big switch on at 5pm. This year, actor and writer Joe Thomas will return to his hometown to push the big button. He will be lighting up Chelmsford and setting off a spectacular fireworks display near the Meadows Shopping Centre and the Town Sign.

Harwich Mayflower Christmas Lights – Ha’Penny Pier to Harwich Green

A family-friendly procession and performance will celebrate Harwich’s involvement in the sailing of The Mayflower to America later this month.The Illuminate Festival returns for the third year on November 23, the Friday after Thanksgiving, to commemorate the town’s link to the historic vessel and voyage. Gathering from 6pm at the Ha’Penny Pier and by the lit-up LV 18 Lightship the procession will set off on its parade at 6.30pm, and will include a giant puppet lantern of Christopher Jones – captain of The Mayflower – and a lantern of The Mayflower too. Performers from the Dovercourt Theatre Group will also be there in period costume.

Stalls selling a variety of gifts and Father Christmas will be on hand to meet children and families. There will be four different stations around Grays that you can go and meet different characters of this year’s panto, Aladdin. Collect stamps from each location and once you have all four stamps you can go and meet Santa at Grays Shopping Centre.

On Thursday 29th November Maldon will be holding a Vintage Christmas event. The action starts at 6pm and Maldon’s Town Mayor will turn on the Christmas lights at 6.30pm. There will be late night shopping plus a street market, choirs, music, hospitality hosted by the local shops and competitions. Saint Fm will be putting on a variety of entertainment from the big stage which will be near All Saints’ Church on the High Street and Santa will be in his Winter Wonderland at the bottom of Brights Path/Old Mill Close. If you fancy dressing for the evening, this year’s theme is the 50’s and a prize will be awarded to the best dressed visitor.

Once again the ‘elves’ at Leigh Town Council have been working to bring you ‘Leigh Lights’ on Friday 30th November. The festivities will begin from 5 p.m. and the Town will be lit up as visitors arrive. The Yuletide Parade, featuring joyful fundraisers will start from Kings Road at 6.30 p.m., travelling along Leigh Road, Broadway and finishing in Broadway West around 7.30p.m.  For children’s pre-event fun, stop by Leigh Community Centre from 4.00 p.m. – 6.00 p.m. where you can enjoy a puppet show and visit Elsa’s grotto!

The sleigh bells will be ringing and there will be plenty of festive joy around Barking Town Centre when the Christmas lights are switched on at the start of December. There will be a free Santa’s grotto*, free Santa gifts and meet REAL reindeer. The Christmas tree lights will be switched on with Paw Patrol. Mr Incredible and Baby Jack Jack from ‘The Incredibles’ and Bing Bunny will be present and there will be prizes for the best Christmas fancy dressed. Shenfield Christmas Fayre is a real community affair with lots of local business involvement and community groups. A large attraction during the event is the truck stage hosting several acts throughout the day including local schools and bands.
