It’s most definitely all about location, location, location when it comes to the Jury’s Inn Plymouth.  Plymouth is an excellent family friendly city that has so much on offer to enjoy indoors and outdoors for all ages.

Sandwiched between the lively harbour front and the vibrant city centre, the Jury’s Inn Plymouth is a great mid-range value for money base for exploring this beautiful city.

The bedrooms are clean and modern, and extremely spacious. They’re fresh and airy and meticulously maintained. For our family of five, we had two spacious double beds and plenty of room for a travel cot and room for the kids to mess about. The cleanliness is very high, important for families with younger children that just love to get into everything – we felt comfortable allowing the little ones to romp around on the floor.

The design of the hotel is tall and therefore you have a good chance of getting a room with a view. The window seat is great for people watching down below and while I was a little nervous at the children being so close to the window, they really enjoyed peering out at the ‘ants’ below.

The hotel is competing with lots of local restaurants, so has to up its game, which might be why it very recently renovated its restaurant.  The open plan restaurant is super modern with a very relaxed ambience that makes it a great location for families, as it’s not too formal. The menu features your gastropub classics to a good standard, and there’s a children’s menu too with lots of family faves like pizza, pasta, burgers etc.  While we didn’t visit, the bar looks a fun and lively stop off for a glass of wine on your way out to explore the city.

We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, something which every guest at the hotel clearly notes!  The buzz of the breakfast room is certainly a testament to the vast spread that comprises the hot and cold buffet featuring an extensive mix of cereals, fruits, pastries and cooked breakfast items.

The staff were so accommodating to us, they bought activity packs for the children and spent time chatting with my two-year-old fetching high chairs and engaging with her from the moment we entered until we left.  I always like a buffet service with the children – no waiting around, and similarly to adults, they can be very visual so being able to mix and match and pick up their breakfast often encourages improved eating, and more exploration with new foods.

Smiles seem to be at the heart of this Jury’s Inn.  There’s often a danger with ‘chain’ hotels that they’re all cookie cutters of the same mould, but we received a very personal service.  From the moment we checked in, they asked if we were familiar with the city, and then proceeded to take out a map out and highlight some of the points of interest for us as a family to explore. And walking through the hotel, the children especially received a lot of attention from the caring staff we bumped in to.

Local Attractions

Plymouth is a fab city for exploration with children.  The National Marine Aquarium is the largest in the UK and is fantastic for just taking in some beautiful marine life; while the Royal William Yard and Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park are located locally and great for exploration.  Further afield, Dartmoor Zoo and the stunning Dartmoor National Park are most definitely worth checking out.
