One of the newest properties to the 4* family-friendly Park Plaza hotel chain is located in the very heart of London’s Waterloo.
They have a pretty good share of some of greater London’s key tourist hot spots, and while they offer a similar standard and flair, there are plenty of nods to difference within each individual hotel.
The Park Plaza Waterloo has been open just over a year and is home to 494 rooms.
Lots to do at Park Plaza Waterloo
The hotel is located directly opposite Lambeth North tube station – I love easy access to public transport, so when you can see the hotel from the tube station entrance, for ease of access it makes travel so simple if you don’t have the added stress of navigating your way too far from the beaten track.
Walking in to the unassuming hotel, the lobby area is really enchanting – dark and moody, yet romantically lit it’s an open plan check in area that naturally spills into a café and separate bar with an abundance of high and low level seating. Sophisticated and luxurious, the public space is extensive which provides an air of relaxation and provides a lot of separate areas where you can freely roam (without fear or judgement) with children and make your own little haven.
During check-in, my children were firstly tempted by the apples on the front desk, which is a nice touch in itself, but the attention from the busy staff made my two children feel really special and then when they were handed a Park Plaza backpack, I literally thought they may explode with pride! Inside the backpack we discovered activity books, pencils and some vouchers for the children to spend in the hotel.
The illy Café is a great spot for lunches and light bites and is stocked with some handy toddler-friendly and treat snacks and drinks, and coincidentally where we redeemed our vouchers for some incredibly tasty chocolate cookies.
The Florentine Restaurant and Bar is more of a funky hangout that always seemed to be busy, day and night, during our stay. With a DJ playing leisurely Ibiza chilled classics to throngs of visitors sipping decorative mojitos, if opportunity arises for a cheeky cocktail with your other half then this is most definitely the spot to hit!
Take in the city skyline
Our home away from home was one of the hotel’s many One Bedroom Suites. Walking in to the room, the view is always a big deal to us and this one didn’t disappoint with a 12–storey view over to Waterloo station and the full city skyline beyond.
The layout of the spacious rooms makes them ideal for families. A lounge area features a comfortable pull out double sofa bed, with adjoining bedroom and separate sprawling bathroom with tub and separate shower.
The stylish décor in the room matches the luxurious comfort experienced in the public areas of the hotel. A neutral slate palette offset with pops of colour and striking artwork gives it a clean, contemporary look. The extras such as fridge and Nespresso machine are the niceties and convenience that make you feel you’re ‘on holiday.’
The hotel is handily located within easy walking distance of the Southbank and subsequent Covent Garden areas that has a plethora of family friendly activities including the London Eye, SEA LIFE Aquarium and all of the museums and attractions that the Thames has to offer. A full day of exploration meant we already had two tired toddlers on our hands, but returning to the comfort of the room was just the antidote to a perfect night’s sleep.
Morning meant a hot breakfast buffet, plentiful and beautifully served, again by such attentive staff and the even bigger bonus is that as part of the Park Plaza’s Family Getaway Package, adults and children receive breakfast for free, so no better excuse to fuel up for another full day of fun in the city.
